DCF report findings on Child Safety
FLORIDA -- A new report is highlighting some of the shortcomings at Florida's Department oOf Children And Families.
The department has been under fire for child deaths and the former secretary resigned in July.
For three hours this morning, lawmakers grilled DCF administrators about child safety.
The interim secretary also released an independent review of forty cases where children died *after DCF had been involved in their cases.
Among the findings.
Assessments of children's safety usually focused only on the most recent allegations and did -not- take into account the family's past history or other factors.
And in some cases investigators did -not- adequately assess the safety of other children in the home after a child's death.
Esther Jacobo/DCF Interim Secretary: "What I can assure everyone is that we are working toward making the system better. That we are putting in safeguards."
