Tampa teacher suspended for forcing student to say the 'Pledge of Allegiance'

TAMPA  --  A Tampa teacher is suspended after forcing a student to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The student is a Jehovah's Witness, and his religion forbids him from participating in activities considered to be the worship of objects.

But the teacher forced the student to place his hand over his heart and recite the pledge.

The school district says she violated a host of state education rules and the student's right to free speech and freedom of religion.

She was suspended for five days without pay.
