Issuing benefits to all National Guard

FLORIDA   --  Florida is among several several states that have ignored the Pentagon's federal mandate to provide benefits to all National Guard members.

All spouses of service members are entitled to Department of Defense ID cards and the benefits that come with them
Eight other states including Mississippi, Louisiana And Georgia have also been cited by the Pentagon as being non-compliant with the directive issued in August.
Basically they are refusing to allow National Guard facilities to issue ID cards that enable same sex spouses of military members to claim benefits.
Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel says not only does this violate the states' obligations under federal law but their actions have created hardship and inequality.

This is wrong. It causes division among our ranks and it furthers prejudice, which DOD has fought to extinguish as has the anti-defamation league."

Hagel says in many cases it is forcing couples to travel long distances to federal military bases to obtain the ID cards that they are entitled to
