Long history of the U.S.O. in Pensacola
The USO- has a long history in Pensacola.
First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt helped open the first branch near the start of World War II.
Today they have three locations at NAS Pensacola, the International Airport, and Northwest Florida Regional Airport.
They're open every day to provide snacks, meals, and other help to service members.
Heidi Blair, Director USO: "Our NAS location is one of the larger locations. We see about 12- to 15-thousand visits a month. Our two airports see between 2,500 and 3,000 a month except for in the month of December when we have all the military members transitioning to get to go home."
The three centers serve service members from nine bases and installations on the gulf coast.
