Gulf Beach Highway mobile home fire

ESCAMBIA COUNTY  --  An Escambia County man is in the hospital after his home caught on fire early this morning. He is in fair condition.

The home is in a trailer park on Gulf Beach Highway.
The man's neighbor helped to save his life.

Kalie Desimone- Quick thinking by the man who lives in this mobile home to grab this hose and pull it over to his next door neighbor's home that was on fire. Made all the difference.

Timothy Hobbs - Neighbor:
"I heard somebody yelling for help."
Timothy Hobbs says that's when he took the matter into his own hands.

"I grabbed my garden hose and started applying as much as I could right away."

Fire crews arrived shortly after and got control of the flames.
Timothy Hobbs - Neighbor:
"This was his only home. He's the type of gentleman who is borderline able to take care of himself and when something like this hits you, it sets you back a long way."

Hobbs says his neighbor was very upset , but breathing on his own  when he was taken by ambulance to an area hospital to be checked out and treated for smoke inhalation.

"This will be a major impact on his life no question about that."
This woman says she is  close to the man who lost his home.
Michelle James - Neighbor:
"We all took care of him around here. He would wait outside every morning at 8 am for me to give him a cup of coffee."

Michelle James says she recently tried to warn her neighbor about fire.
"You got to be careful. It's going to be cold."
The outside of the mobile home doesn't appear to be heavily damaged but the roof and inside were completely destroyed.

Despite losing everything people at this RV park say they are going to do whatever it takes to help their neighbor and friend.

"This is a strong community. We all come together during this kind of thing. I believe in my heart that things will work out for Ed."
Kalie Desimone- The State Fire Marshal has been called to investigate the cause of the fire.
