Winter storm moving across much of the nation

A storm carrying ice, snow, and freezing rain is moving across much of the country.
It has caused at least eight deaths and millions of holiday travelers could have their plans disrupted.

A massive storm system is on a collision course with holiday travelers.
And it's already upending plans for getting around as Thanksgiving approaches.

The driver in this Oklahoma wreck was unhurt. but the slick mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is threatening to make for a treacherous holiday trek.
"It's dangerous, real dangerous right now. Accidents all over down here on Santa Fe. People bumping into each other just from the snow, just can't stop I guess."
The rough weather is blamed for at least a dozen deaths, mostly in road accidents.

Violent wind and sleet battered the Albuquerque area."  A lot of snow, a lot of ice, the roads hadn't been plowed."

"It's slick! I mean, there's a lot of snow on top of ice that's just being packed on the more cars are driving over it."
Ice is the gremlin in the skies. too. At Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, de-icing becomes a matter of life and death. Flight delays promise travel backups.

Heading east. in western New York, freezing waters became a frigid trap for a hunter who got caught up to his waist,   It took a hovercraft and a helicopter to pull him to safety.
And in Oklahoma, the weather even waylaid these feathered fellows. A flock of tiny "Ready" ducks -- grounded when they apparently mistook ice on the road for a pool of water

"The edges of their beak have got very bad bruising and bleeding on the end of the beaks so they must have, nose-dived."
The wicked weather is expected to move *up* the northeast -- and move *in* on the holiday festivities.
