Mobile home catches on fire this morning

A man was taken to the hospital, after his home caught fire early this morning. The fire was at the Heritage Oaks Mobile Home Park off Gulf Beach highway around 4 p.m.

Quick thinking by the man who lives in this mobile home to grab this hose and pull it over to his next door neighbors home that was on fire made all the difference.

Timothy Hobbs says he heard someone screaming for help around 4 a.m. Thursday morning. When he looked outside, he saw his neighbors mobile home- engulfed in flames. He tried to put the fire out himself with his garden hose --but says fire crews arrived shortly after and got better control of the flames.

Hobbs says his neighbor was very upset when he was taken by ambulance to an area hospital to be checked out and treated for smoke inhalation. The outside of the mobile home doesn't appear to be heavily damaged but the roof and inside were completely destroyed.

"This was his only home. He's the type of gentleman who is borderline able to take care of himself and when something like this hits you, it sets you back a long way," Hobbs said.

"Devastation. To him yes. This is all he had. All he had," said neighbor Michelle James.

The state fire marshall has been called to investigate the cause of the fire.
