46th Annual Snowball Derby
ESCAMBIA COUNTY -- The 46th Annual Snowball Derby starts Thursday night at Five Flags Speedway.
People are already camping out for the big race.
Motor homes and RV's rolled in from places as far away as Michigan, Minnesota and Texas for the big race.
Many of these racing fans have been coming to the Snowball Derby for years.
"We've got water and generators out here for our gas" said Mike Sobiecki, Camper.
Mike has held down parking spaces 47 and 48 for eleven years.
"I feel they're going to need more space if it gets any bigger. They're out of camping spaces, there's no getting around it" said Sobiecki.
Mike knows how lucky he is to have a place to set up camp.
The waiting list has over 130 names on it.
Robert Woodard waited 3 years for a spot to open for his camper.
"In 1990, I actually had a car that competed out here now I'm just a spectator" said Robert Woodard, Camper.
For most campers the camaraderie amongst each other is just as appealing as the race itself.
"We enjoy the camping and we have a lot of friends and all who join us and cook and have a good time and watch the races" said Tim Foley, Camper.
"We've got friends next door to us, across from us, Robert and Hank and all the guys and it's just a good time" said Sobiecki.
