Independent investigation called in Jameis Winston case
TALLAHASSEE -- The attorney for the woman who accused FSU Quarterback Jameis Winston of rape is calling for an independent investigation of the case and The Tallahassee Police Department.
It appears to me to be a complete failure of an investigation of a rape case
This morning Attorney Patricia Carroll sharply criticized police departments handling of the case.
She says the investigation, filled with omissions, contradictions and sloppy police work, wrongly focused on her client, not on Winston.
Carroll also slammed the follow-up investigation by State Attorney Willie Meggs which concluded last week with no charges being filed against Winston.
"I would be absolutely insane to have a secondary DNA in our case and have the defense attorney get up and say the real rapist they didn't find."
"Unless someone comes up with some evidence that I don't think will ever happen, it's closed."
Meggs said the evidence did not meet the burden of proof he needed to file charges.
