Openly gay boy scouts allowed to join Jan. 1

Starting January 1, the Boy Scouts of America will accept openly gay scouts.

The new policy was approved in May, with support from 60 percent of the voting members of the organization's national council.

The vote was after a controversial nationwide debate. The policy was only changed for scouts, they still exclude openly gay adults from leadership positions.
