New boat ramp in Escambia Co. under construction

Construction on the Mahogany Mill Boat Ramp in Escambia County is underway and should be finished just in time for summer.

This almost 3-acre piece of land will be the home of a three-lane boat ramp. There will also be a large public gazebo, a restroom facility, and various sized parking spaces to accommodate a wide range of water craft trailers. Designers say there will be an area for people to  tie down their water crafts, a sanitary pump-out station, and an educational kiosk. This project uses natural resources damage assessment funding from BP.

"I think that's great. I've got a boat and I'll probably pull it over here and put it in, especially if it's free," said boater Dennise Howerton.

One of the many reasons this boat ramp was built is to offset the crowd that usually gathers at the Navy Point boat ramp during the busy summer months.
