Red Cross opens winter weather shelter

In coordination with Escambia County Emergency Management, the
American Red Cross is opening a winter weather shelter to provide safe, warm lodging for area residents affected
by power outages and frigid temperatures.

The shelter will open at 8 p.m. at East Brent Baptist Church in Pensacola. The shelter location is:
East Brent Baptist Church
4801 N. Davis Hwy.
Pensacola, FL 32503

Disaster Program Specialist Doug Watson asks that those needing shelter bring their personal items and any
special dietary products. For families with children, its always a good idea to bring a special blanket or stuffed
animal to help them feel more at home. In addition, you may want to prepare a go-bag and include the following:
Important personal paperwork
Cell phone and charger
Warm clothing
Sanitation/ personal care products
Flashlight and batteries

A similar shelter is opening tonight in the Panama City area. Red Cross chapters across the state continue to
monitor conditions and work with their government and community partners should the need for additional shelters
and response efforts arise.
