Cold dry weather raises risk of wildfires

The Florida Forestry Service says the cold, dry spell is raising the risk of wildfires.

Firefighters spent the night monitoring a brush fire near Gulf Beach Highway.

The first started around six last night.
It burned about an acre and never threatened any homes or businesses.

But the crews wanted to make sure it didn't flare back up.
Forestry is planning to do more controlled burns next week.

They say the winter weather is killing off a lot of underbrush.   Making it easier for them to get into some remote areas.
