Home invasion caught on camera
It was a pretty scary night for a Shalimar family when their home was invaded by a burglar and it was all caught on tape.
They originally installed the camera to catch some petty soda thieves, but it captured a man who was after much more than that.
The Keeler family was asleep early Thursday morning, when a burglar forced open their garage door and made his way into their house, taking a wallet and a purse full of cash, and it was caught on tape.
When neighborhood kids started taking drinks from a refridgerator in their garage, the Keelers installed a security camera. Around 1:50am, the man broke into their home, he spent about 6 minutes inside and crawled back out into the dark. The purse adn wallet he stole were roughly ten feet from the doors of the Keelers children.
Margo Keeler says her biggest concern is the mindset of her children.
"Absolutely. My daughter slept with me last night. I'm supposed to keep them secure, our home is supposed to be the safe place for them. And now, not it's not so safe. The realness of the bad part of the world has come in, com into our house."
Maleah Keeler was only feet from the burglar and still has nightmares.
"I was in shock, and just scared of going home and sleeping. It just gets you more worried that it's going to happen again. It's scary."
The Keelers say the most important takeaway: be diligent in securing your home.
