Fort Walton Beach considers Downtown Entertainment center

FORT WALTON BEACH  --  City leaders in Fort Walton Beach are considering creating an entertainment district downtown to hopefully bring in more businesses and special events.

The district would stretch from west of Humphrey Street to east of the Brooks Bridge and would be regulated differently than other areas.

It would operate under a different set of rules for alcohol possession and consumption, and noise regulations.

Some downtown business owners think it's a good idea while others are concerned about safety.
Marty Coulbourn "Ft. Walton's just getting left behind. And they need to step it up and do something in that area, and it would just take off like wildfire

Bill Avery "We need to make sure that nobody gets hurt, that we don't have situations where there'd be a riotous crowd, or people that are drunk and stumbling into the street."

The city says if the district is approved, they hope to have it in place by early May.
