Proposal could ban smoking around children in public parks

A proposal that could ban smoking in parks where children play moved easily through its first state senate test.

The senate regulated industries committee let the measure through without opposition. The proposal would ban smoking in public parks that have at least one piece of playground equipment for kids.

While no one said they were against the proposal, Senator Nancy Detert did caution complaints would come. She said senators should be prepared to hear from their veterans.

Veterans of foreign wars posts would be exempt from the proposal if passed.
