Oil processing company helping cleanup Escambia River oil spill

An oil processing company in Santa Rosa County is working to clean up  oil that spilled into a creek that feeds the Escambia River.

Employees at Quantum Resources discovered the spill around 3:30 Thursday morning.
The company says cold temperatures earlier this week caused a pump to freeze and fail causing about three barrels of oil to leak into the creek.

Several agencies, including the Department of Environmental Protection were called in to help with the clean up.

Absorbent containment booms were put out to contain the oil.
Some local fishermen are worried about how the spill will effect the river.

Jerry Fischer "I hope that when they get this thing all straightened out, that they restock this area with the bullfrogs and the muscles and the fish that will probably be killed, that'll affect them for the next year or so."

Escambia County's Emergency Management says there are no health risks or advisories being reported at this time and that cleanup efforts are being monitored closely.
