Pensacola Chamber and Vistor's Bureau splitting up
PENSACOLA -- The Greater Pensacola Chamber and the Pensacola Bay Area Convention and Visitors Bureau are splitting up.
The bureau, better known as "Visit Pensacola". Will be run by its own eleven-member board.
The board is made up of hoteliers, restauranteurs, and others with an interest in the industry.
The separation comes after questions about how the chamber spent its money.
Including bed tax dollars spent to support the operation of the Pensacola Bay Center.
Jerry Maygarden/President, Greater Pensacola Chamber: "It's a sunshine activity, it's gonna be subject to the public records law. It's gonna be something that the community can participate in, not only as an observer but as an actual participant in the process. I think it'll be good for all of us
Visit Pensacola is funded by Escambia County's bed tax.
That generated 7.7 million dollars last year.
