UPDATE: Sacred Heart Hospital

ESCAMBIA COUNTY   --  Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola was unable to admit adult patients for a few hours today.

All of Sacred's 320 adult beds were full this morning.
The hospital was still able to admit ER patients, children and pregnant women..
But, for a few hours this morning,  Sacred was unable to admit transfer patients.
By one o'clock this afternoon, beds were available again.
Doctors at Sacred say they have seen an increase in patients over the last month.
People have been coming in for a variety of illnesses.
"If it was just the influenza I think we could manage our surge, but it's influenza, we've had significant trauma, we've also had significant cardiac patients, and the other thing we're seeing is general abdominal injuries"

Sacred Heart's expansion project will help alleviate capacity issues in the future.

Up to 112 extra beds will available once it is finished.
