Downtown Pensacola transforms into sci-fi, comic book dream
DOWNTOWN PENSACOLA -- Downtown Pensacola is transforming into a sci-fi, comic book dream.
Pensacon is taking over and downtown businesses are coming together supporting the first ever event.
"You've probably seen signs just like this one all over downtown Pensacola talking about Pensacon, so what exactly is Pensacon?"
Manda Manning "It ranges from Sci-fi, comics, gaming, to pop culture."
The event will kick off Friday and go all weekend long.
Fans will be able to meet famous characters from horror and sci-fi movies like Star Wars and Walking Dead.
Manda Manning "You can bring anything you want them to sign because a lot of people will bring some of their own collectables they've bought throughout the years."
Downtown business have jumped on board offering specials and going along with the theme.
If you come dressed up as a character or show your Pensacon arm band entry to Seville Quarter will be free.
Buck Mitchell "Saturday we're going to host Doug Syned who is a fifty year old Play Boy cartoonist. "So we are going to have a Play Boy Bunny party."
Other businesses are also gearing up for the big weekend.
Hop Jacks will have the Star Wars celebrity after party and Tin Cow will host the Walking Dead stars.
Businesses say the event is helping get Pensacola on the map. More then 5,000 people are expected to attend.
Joe Abston "Downtown is more of a winter season, but those seasons are starting to go away and it's great to see that there is events that are in the summer, winter, and in the fall and they really are making downtown Pensacola a year around destination. We are not a seasonal city anymore."
"If you bought pre sale tickets you can pick them up here at the Crowne Plaza until 8:00 tonight, but if you missed out on that opportunity you can always come by tomorrow and pick up those tickets at 10:00am."
