State lawmakers consider bill not to release mug shot unless conviction

Should a mug shot be released to the public whenever someone is arrested or only after they're convicted?

Many law enforcement agencies have websites that show booking photos.

Of course, we in the news media use them to tell you about crimes and the people who've been arrested State lawmakers are now considering a bill to end that. If approved, mug shots would -not- be released to the public unless a suspect is *convicted of the crime.
A county or municipal detention facility may not electronically publish or disseminate an arrest booking photograph of any arrestee who is charged with but not yet convicted of a criminal offense.

This paragraph does not apply to the electronic publication or dissemination of arrest booking photographs between criminal justice agencies.
