Midbay connector sign warns drivers of extra fees

A new toll road in Okaloosa County is costing some drivers more than double what they thought they would pay.
The Midbay connector opened last month.

It offers two payment options, Sunpass and "Toll-by-plate".

With the second option, cameras take a picture of the license plate, and a bill is sent to the registered owner.
The signs say "toll by plate" costs a dollar-fifty.

What they don't mention is the administrative fee for sending the bill.

The director of the Midbay authority says they don't charge the fee, it's collected by the state.
The two-fifty is only billed once a month, no matter how many times a driver uses the road.

They are getting new signs that mention the administrative fee.
