The 'Cross' on Pensacola Beach vandalized
PENSACOLA BEACH -- The sign marking a Pensacola Beach landmark is in shambles.
The tattered metal sign stands near the marble cross that marks the site where one of the first Christian services was held in the United States back in 1559.
The cross was put up by the Knights of Columbus in 1959.
The sign and cross survived Hurricane Ivan - but the director of the Santa Rosa Island Authority suspects vandals pushed it down.
It will be replaced with a new wooden sign in about a week.
