Gov. Scott meets with Obama today to discuss flood insurance

Happening today - Governor Rick Scott is meeting with President Obama and will ask the president to block flood insurance hikes.

Channel 3's Kalie Desimone joins us live this morning with a preview of what the leaders are expected to talk about.

The nation's governors are scheduled to meet with Obama on today. The Scott administration says the governor will personally ask Obama to block flood insurance hikes required under a new law intended to end federal subsidies. Congress has been debating whether to change the 2012 overhaul of the federal flood insurance program, but so far no agreement has been reached. Scott has previously asked U.S. House Speaker John Boehner to take action. He has also requested a meeting with Obama to discuss the issue.

The flood insurance overhaul has impacted Florida homeowners, especially those in coastal areas like here on Pensacola Beach.

The overhaul has caused premiums for flood insurance to skyrocket, sometimes 5 to 10 times of an increase in some parts of Florida.
