Crestview brothers want to open first legal moonshining distillery

CRESTVIEW  --  The South is rich in history and a big part of our history has been probation..

And moonshining has always been frowned upon..
A local Crestview business is hoping to change that by opening the first legal moonshining distillery in Okaloosa County,

"For years, making moonshine has been something people have been doing underground or even behind doors...

"But the Peaden brothers have decided to bring it to the forefront and bring it to Main Street in Crestview and make moonshine legally."

The Peaden brothers have been fighting for nearly 2 years to have their dream of legal moonshining come true..

After many battles with federal and state legislatures it's finally happening.
The family owns the historic Fox Theater and has placed a distillery inside..

The 100-gallon copper stills can produce 45 to 65 gallons of moonshine in 3 hours.
Tyler Peaden: "You have to look at it as a sense of tax revenue. It was a lot of politicking and  a lot of pushing and just a lot research in general."

Crestview's Main Street is rich with history... Over the years the stores have changed.. but the buildings remain the same..

The entrance to the Fox Theater looks like a barrel..
It's still under renovation and the brothers haven't changed a thing inside .

Rocky chase: "It still looks like the old days too. It hasn't changed a whole lot, the businesses have but the buildings still look nice."

Customers will be able to come inside, choose their favorite flavor of moonshine, and purchase a bottle.

But each person will only be able to buy two bottles a year due to state laws.
"This is an area rich in history and it's kind of unspoken and now it's bring it back to the forefront and so lets put Crestview back on
the map."

Michael Schwartz: "I think it's great that a new local business is coming in, you know Main Street is actively trying to establish itself as the old school Main Street with all the business in the community and I think it's absolutely fantastic."

"The Peaden brothers plan to have the distillery open in the next two weeks."
