Funding of Florida universities could be changing to "Performance Based"
The way Florida funds the eleven state universities may be about to change.
The Board of Governors is now considering "performance-based" funding.
Schools would be ranked on seven factors including how much a degree costs and how much its students earn after graduation.
University of West Florida President, Dr. Judy Bense, says the system would favor larger universities.
Dr. Judy Bense/President, UWF: "We have a lot of part-time students that work, that take a long time to finish, but they keep at it, you know. They take a course or two every semester, and that hurts us in terms of time to graduation."
Dr. Bense says, depending on how they place in relation to other schools. They could lose money or gain money.
The plan has been proposed for the school year starting in the fall.
But it has -not- yet received final approval.
