Locals celebrate Florida Archaeology Month

March is Florida Archaeology Month and some local history buffs kicked things off with the first official 'Dash Through the Past' event.

Ten teams of two scoured Downtown Pensacola visiting several historic sites, reading signs and completing challenges in a two mile course. The team that finished the hunt first won a prize.

"They're given a series of questions and a map where they have two hours to complete it," said Mike Thomin of Florida Public Archaeology Network.

Many of these questions and the map will take them to different historic and archaeological sites in Downtown Pensacola. And they include archaeological sites, monuments and downtown buildings."

After the dash, some of the participants got the chance to look over some old artifacts at the archeology lab.
