National Pancake Day means free pancakes at IHOP to benefit children

I hope you are extra hungry today because it's free pancake day at IHOP!

Channel 3's Kalie Desimone joins us live this morning from the IHOP in Gulf Breeze with more.

The IHOP has been celebrating National Pancake Day since for 31 years.

"It's exciting because you are part of the community. You are making things work for children and you are making a lot of people happy because they come hungry and leave happy," said Larry Truhlick, Vice President of IHOP in the Pensacola area.

Today IHOP asks diners to consider making a donation to help children's hospitals and the young patients they care for.

"Part of being a kid is you need kid sized equipment you can't have adult equipment so this helps purchase kid sized equipment," said Marina Holley of Sacred Heart Foundation.

Last year, local IHOPs collected more than $14,000. They're serving  from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
