Airport concessions debate over

PENSACOLA  --  The debate over who will run concessions at Pensacola International Airport has come to an end.

The city council was one vote shy of overriding Mayor Ashton Hayworth's veto for the concessions contract for Pensacola International Airport.
An override would have extended the current airport concessions contract with Robert de Varona on a month to month basis..
Council members Sherri Myers, Megan Pratt, Charles Bare, PC Wu, and Gerald Wingate voted to override the veto.
Pratt and Myers both said they believe the mayor's veto, and the fact he awarded the contract to OHM without the council's approval is a violation of council policies.

"I'm very disappointed but not taken by surprised they would not support overriding the veto."
Robert de Varona was at the meeting. He chose not to speak to us.
His contract ends in just a few days, OHM will begin operations at the airport on April 1.
