Weather Alert

On the map below, the circle over the Gulf of Mexico is for an area of low pressure heading toward Texas.  Development is not expected.  Also, we're tracking Cristobal and a tropical wave over the eastern Caribbean Sea that may become another depression though chances are low.

Helicopter training in Navy Point

Residents who live in Navy Point are used to hearing aircraft fly above their homes, but yesterday, they heard something way louder, and they had no idea what it was.

It's a group of Marines training in helicopters.

This is the largest helicopter in the US. A group of Marines are training here because it's familiar territory.

The pilots are based in North Carolina, but they did their initial flight training here. So coming back , makes it a whole lot easier to learn how to fly this bad boy, the CH Echo Stallion.

"It's nice to come back to somewhere we are familiar with. You see same airfields the airspace air traffic controllers which is always helpful.

But for people who live nearby, the helicopters made them jump a bit, because they are far louder than the typical jets they hear.

They were so dynamic so loud a noise I had never heard before. They caused me to come out of my house. I'd never seen anything quite like that before or heard anything quite like that

But for CB Roberts, he says it's just the sound of freedom.

The Marines will be here until next Thursday, March 13.
