Single gender classes
A bill moving through Capitol committees would allow public schools to offer single gender classes.
The bill gives K through 12 schools the option to have boys only and girls only classes in core classes like math, science, English, and social studies.
Boys and girls would still be able to mingle during recess and lunch.
This stems from performance evaluations of children attending private schools.
The National Association for Single Sex Public Education says students in gender specific classes score higher on standardized tests and are more likely to go to a four-year college.
"The settings effect the children's learning and in this case we have evidence that the girls perform better, the boys perform better and there's still interaction for those that are critics of the separation."
