Stiffer penalties for sexual predators

On the first day of the Florida legislative session the Senate passed new laws against sexual predators.

Senators passed legislation designed to keep more predators in jail longer.
Senate President Don Gaetz says too many gaps in the law let almost 600 predators slip through the cracks.

"Gaps in the law, inconsistencies by State agencies, local law enforcement and prosecutors not getting the tools that they need. Whatever the cause is, the consequences are chilling. 594 predators caught and then released."

Lawmakers say the legislation they are passing comes as close to zero tolerance as possible.
Two bills were sent to the house, which could act as early as next week.
