Torch Run for Special Olympics runs through Pensacola today

PENSACOLA   -- Officers across Northwest Florida are trading in their weapons for running shoes today all to help some local athletes.

Officers from several different agencies are taking part in a 'Torch Run' for Special Olympics.
   
Each year more than five-thousand officers carry the torch on a 1500 mile relay across Florida.
   
The event is a way to raise awareness and support for the Special Olympics.

The first leg of the run began this morning in Century and includes a stop in Pensacola.
   
The run will end May 9th in Central Florida.
