Recap of what to put in your recycling bin

The ECUA says 65 percent of their customers are participating in the recycling program. A program that not only helps the environment but it also helps homeowners save some money.

It's not only trash day on this street in Northern Escambia County , it's also Recycling Day. This green trash can is full of house waste while this grey can is specifically for recycling certain items.

"We take all the commingled products that we collect from our customers and then it is sorted," said Jim Roberts with ECUA.

But Jim Roberts with the ECUA says recently the company has seen many more items -they consider not- to be recyclable- in grey containers.

"Be sure not to put liquids in there. Eliminate the liquids because it gets the paper wet and in the long run it will clog up the gears back at the processing center," Roberts said.

You should also remove all food scraps from cardboard boxes you plan on recycling. And as you prepare to do some spring cleaning in your yard-- know that yard trash shouldn't be placed in those grey containers either. The ECUA provides a separate service just for that need.
