Some Floirda lawmakers propose hunting season on Black Bears

Florida lawmakers want to open up a hunting season for black bears.
In a letter to the Fish and Wildlife Commission, a dozen Florida representatives are asking for a range of controls.
One proposal is to allow limited hunting in areas FWC would deem "hot spots" with high bear populations.
The request comes after two bear attacks in Central Florida.
Earlier this month  a Lake Mary woman was dragged from her garage by a black bear.
And in December a woman was attacked by a young bear while walking her dogs in Longwood.
People in Okaloosa County are accustomed to dealing with black bears.
Some people we spoke to are at odds over how to deal with the animals.

"It's just like controlling the deer population, controlling the bear population"
"I personally would say no, because I think that people have tended to build their houses closer to their natural environments, such as the Eglin Reservation where we chose to build a house at"

The Fish and Wildlife director says the options will be considered carefully as the agency continues to implement its black bear management plan.
