On the map below, the circle over the Gulf of Mexico is for an area of low pressure heading toward Texas.  Development is not expected.  Also, we're tracking Cristobal and a tropical wave over the eastern Caribbean Sea that may become another depression though chances are low.

UPDATE: 2014 Red Snapper Season

Florida's recreational red snapper season will last 52 days and begin in May for the first time in years!

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission made the announcement today.
   
The season will run from May 24th to July 14th.
Earlier this month, the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council voted to shorten the red snapper season in federal waters to 11 days, down from 42 days last year.
   
The federal season begins June 1st and goes  through June 11th.
Florida state waters in the gulf are from shore to nine nautical miles.
   
Federal waters extend from where state waters end, out to about 200 nautical miles.
