Escambia Co. builds retention pond off Olive rd.

Escambia County Commissioners have decided to spend $175,000 dollars for a property they originally valued at $120,000.

The county is planning to build a retention pond off Olive road that will span nearly 7 acres.

They offered Skater's Choice Realty $120,000 for part of the land needed to build the pond.
But the company wouldn't sell for less than $175,000.

At Thursday night's commission meeting, the county voted to pay that price.
Wes Moreno, Deputy Director of Public Works, Escambia County, said "Having to go over appraised value, you have to take into consideration the betterment of the community."

The county hopes to have the pond completed by 2017.
