Kids fishing clinic

It was a beautiful day for fishing and in Pensacola, dozens of children had a chance to learn more about the sport.

A fishing clinic at Plaza De Luna taught them how to tie knots, cast a line, and recognize different kinds of fish.

Florida Fish and Wildlife, the Pensacola Recreational Fishermen's Association, and other groups put on the event.

Everything was free in hopes the children would learn habits to last a lifetime.

Scott Mason, Pensacola Recreational Fishermen's Association:
"We say if you teach a kid to learn how to fish before he's 14, he'll fish all his life and actually teach his kids to fish. And it's a cheap thing for the parents to do. Once you've got your pole and your tackle, take a kid fishing anywhere, all you have to do is throw a line in the water and you'll catch something here in Pensacola."

After the clinic, the children could take their new poles and tackle and fish for real from the pier.
