Smash and grab burglaries
ESCAMBIA COUNTY -- Some local businesses owners in the area say they are being terrorized by burglars.
For the past two weeks many businesses dealing with lawn maintenance equipment say their businesses have been burglarized by the same people.
Fix-It on Davis Highway and Outpost Rentals on 9 Mile Road are now beefing up security.
"Employees at Outpost Rentals say a dark colored suburban pulled right up to the front of the store then someone got out of the car took a rock and threw it through this window they are calling it a smash and grab."
Tim Hawthorne-Store Manager: "It's really brazen we've been in operation here for nearly 20 years and we've had folks come in through the fence before, but we've never really had anybody enter the building like that."
They say the two men entered through the broken glass door and took an electric jack hammer and pressure washer... Costing the business nearly 3,000 dollars.
"We kind of figure someone had been in the store previously saw these things and knew they can do a quick grab."
Hawthorne says the employees do everything they can to secure the business.
"We changed the locks and security systems and all of that, but unfortunately if someone wants to take something there's not really a lot someone can do about it."
This story sounds like deja vu to Fix-It owner Mike Ruzicka.
"They took a brick slammed it."
His business was broken into twice. Nearly 2500 dollars of merchandise stolen. Including lawnmowers, weed wackers, and other equipment.
Mike Ruzicka-Owner: "We just started off our busy season here and trying to help everybody out and get their lawn equipment going and it's been really hard getting terrorized."
He's now adding two German Shepherds to the back of the store and an electric fence to detour people from breaking in.
"Both businesses are keeping their eyes on Craigslist to see if their items might pop up on the site. If you have any information about either incident you're asked to call Pensacola Police Department or the Escambia County Sheriffs Office."
