Days cut in Red Snapper season

New this morning - The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council has made a decision on Red Snapper limits in federal waters.

They have cut the season to 11 days. It was 42 days last year and is set to begin June 1. Council members say they approved the change to make sure Red Snapper would continue to thrive in the Gulf.

However, charter fishermen are concerned this change would severely limit their business. The limited season must be approved by the secretary of commerce.

The drastic change was partially due to a successful lawsuit filed by commercial fisherman
