"Love for Logan": Community shows support for high school student who suffered a spinal injury

ESCAMBIA COUNTY - A Pace teen is in the hospital after a diving accident left him nearly paralyzed.  Family members say Logan Cannon suffered a spinal cord injury as he belly-flopped into a shallow portion of the Blackwater River.  Logan's traumatic injury has brought an outpouring of support from the community.

Logan Cannon's life changed the instant he jumped into the Blackwater River last week.  The 18 year-old's chin smacked the ground, seriously damaging his spine.

"They gave us the news that he shattered his C4, and he had no feeling from the neck down" said Kim Cannon, Logan's mom.

Logan's had a couple of surgeries at Sacred Heart Hospital already.  He has a long road to recovery, but an outpouring of support from the community is helping the family through this difficult time.

"It just reaffirms what a great kid he is and all the people's lives that he's touched" said Blake Cannon, Logan's uncle.

'Logan Strong' tags the graffiti bridge.
Fellow students from Pace High School have flooded his hospital room with get well gifts.  They also created 'Love for Logan' bracelets; even the Blue Wahoos wore them at a recent game.
Logan's support page on Facebook gained more than 4,000 likes in just three days.

"Friends and family have taken off with all the support and love and prayers and everything" said Kimberly Cannon.

The next phase in Logan's road to recovery will take him to a rehab center in Jacksonville for about a month.
