Secretary of Defense considers banning smoking on all military bases

The Secretary of Defense is considering a ban on the use and sale of tobacco on all military bases.

This comes just a week or so, after the Navy said they are making some moves to curb smoking.

The reason- big healthcare savings.
There are a lot of options on the table, and no definite decisions have been made but many lawmakers want cigarettes and other tobacco products to be thrown out of bases.

The reason, over-all health and dollars.
Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel says  dealing with tobacco-related health issues costs the Defense Department more than a billion dollars a year.

Plus he wants our military to remain healthy.
It's just not healthy, we know this, science backs it.
Others say there is far more the Defense Department needs to worry about....

I don't know why they would ban it, they are out there fighting for our country, if they want to smoke, let them smoke.

Studies show military members use tobacco at higher rates than same-age civilians. A 2011 DOD survey showed 24 percent of troops smoked, compared with 20 percent of civilians of the same age."
