Witnesses talk about deadly shooting

One person is dead after a shooting in West Pensacola this afternoon

It happened on Emerald Avenue, off Fairfield Drive around 2:30.
Deputies responded to a call of shots being fired, and arrived to find a car drove into a house and one person is dead.
Deputies are not releasing the name of the victim just yet.

Channel Three's Jenise Fernandez tells us what witnesses say happened.

Just take a look at the damage, three windows used to be here, before a car slammed into this home, just inches away from where someone was sitting inside.

The homeowner did not want to talk on camera, but shared with us what happened.
He was sitting in his bedroom toward the back of the home when he heard a loud crash.
He ran to the living room where he saw a black Impala inside his home, his mother pinned underneath a table.

The homeowner continues his story, saying the driver was unresponsive and had what appeared to be a bullet wound in his chest.
He then described to us a dramatic scene, he says a woman ran to the car yelling to the driver, "please don't die on me."

The scene on Emerald Avenue drew dozens of people from the neighborhood, all looking on as deputies collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.
It's a scene many living here are all too familiar with.

Witnesses say they heard anywhere from 10 to 16 shots being fired before seeing the car drive into the home.
After a tow truck took the car away, deputies stayed behind searching for shell casings.

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office does have one person of interest in custody that they're questioning.
But so far, no arrests have been made.
