Mayor Hayward cancels show amid controversy

PENSACOLA -- Mayor Ashton Hayward will no longer have his own show on BLAB TV. He canceled it today amid push back from the community.

Some people criticized the mayor, saying he is using taxpayer money to campaign for re-election. A contract between the city and BLAB TV shows the estimated cost is more than 23,000 dollars.

"That's about $7000 less than we pay for a starting police officer. I'd rather hire another police officer than spend $23,000 for that."

Hayward said the show would spotlight what city employees are doing, the programs offered to Pensacola residents and projects that are funded by the Local Option Sales Tax.
