Airport Blvd improvements

Airport Boulevard is one of the busiest roads in Escambia County.
About 30-thousand vehicles use Airport Boulevard each day.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is hosting a meeting with people who live and work along Airport Boulevard Tuesday night (4/22). The meeting is at the Hilton Garden Inn from 5:30PM-6:30PM.

FDOT's goal is to find out how they can make Airport Boulevard more efficient from the sidewalk to the street. They also do not plan to widen the road they are just looking for ways to improve it.
Business owner, Arnold Wright who's store is on Airport Boulevard said, "It gets real congested here. I would like to see them make a turning lane where people can pull in my business instead of having to go down the road to make a u-turn."
One of his clients even got a ticket after turning into his store. "We would like to see easier access without having such a problem to get into the parking lot."
The area of focus for tonight's meeting is the part of Airport Boulevard beginning at Interstate 110 to the Pensacola International Airport.
This part of the road passes highly populated areas like Cordova Mall and Pensacola State College.
Driving on Airport Boulevard we passed a PSC student who was walking to school. The student, Jonathan Zambrana says he has no complaints using this sidewalk to get to school. "So far I have had no problems. It's nice, the sidewalks are clean and the cross walks are appropriate."
