Students pledge not to drink and drive during Prom
Big and exciting events are coming up for Seniors, like Prom and Graduation.
Unfortunately, they are also events at which teens are more likely to drink and drive.
Friday, a man serving a 15 year prison sentence for killing a teenager while driving drunk, told students at Washington High about the terrible choices he made.
Chad Mattson hit and killed a 15 year old after consuming about a dozen drinks.
"The crime I committed is 100% avoidable, it's avoidable because you can just make a decision."
Rita Mattson, Chad's mother, said "Call your parents, call your friends, call anybody, but don't get into a vehicle because my son took a teenager's life."
After hearing Mattson's story, many of the students signed a pledge not to drink and drive.
The banner with their signatures will hang on the wall during their prom.
