Fort Walton Beach noise ordinance

FORT WALTON BEACH  --  Fort Walton Beach leaders want a festive mood downtown, but there will be fines for property owners who let things get too loud.

More live music and events are expected, now that the city has designated downtown as an "Entertainment District".

But it's also a mixed-use area, with lots of residential condos.

The City Council set noise limits when it approved the entertainment district.

Starting May 1st, there will be fines of up to $250 for violating those limits.
"It's a difficult situation, but I think it comes back to courtesy, so there does need to be some type of limitations that are agreeable to both sides"

On weekends, a maximum level of eighty decibels will be allowed, until 2 in the morning.

City staffers say that's comparable to a medium-sized truck.

Police will have decibel meters to check levels if complaints are made.
