Local runners head to Boston for marathon

April 15th is the one year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing. A group of runners from Northwest Florida were there and several them are going back to Boston to show their strength.

As Cherie Epstein laces up her sneakers each day, she thinks about what happened one year ago. She said, "It was surreal, kind of like you were a spectator in a movie. Bomb squads all over the place, panic, deep sense of sadness."

Everyone from our area ended up being okay physically, but those memories never go away. Epstein said, "I started crying thinking about it. A year ago, these guys were plotting out what they were going to do, it was already in the works.

It took her a little while to have the courage to do another big run- but she isn't allowing the bombers to take this race away from her. She will be flying up to Boston on Saturday to run it again.

"I think the boys who were trying to take our joy from us picked the wrong crowd. Runners are inspired now because of the spirit of runners never giving up." she said.
