Cause of Fowler Place apartments remains unclear

What caused a fire that left eight people homeless in Ensley late night is still unclear.
The fire broke out at the Fowler Place Apartments complex in the 700 block of Tumbleweed Trail just before midnight.

This is thought to be where the fire started. You can see the bottom unit and the top unit on the back part of this apartment building are destroyed.

"When I came outside, I could see smoke and fire all over the top of the building."
That's when Kevin Bonfardine says he knew what he had to do.

"I saw the back of the building on fire so I ran over there to do what I could to help and get everyone out."
A total of 8 fire trucks responded. The fire was under control in minutes .One person was treated for smoke inhalation but no other injuries have been reported.

Late Tuesday morning Courtney William's, her son and her mother returned to their apartment after the flames drove them out.

"I was sleeping. I woke up at midnight to people screaming that there was a fire."
William's says she was one of the lucky ones in the building and didn't lose any of her belongs to the flames. But she still has a lot on her plate.

"We are going to have to move because they are boarding up all the apartments now."

While the units on the east side of the building have severe damage, the units on the west side just have some smoke damage.
