Possible drowning from 17th Avenue boat launch

PENSACOLA  --   A man drowned near the 17th Avenue boat launch after falling off of the train trestle in Escambia County over night.

Pensacola police say three men were walking along the trestle around 10:30 last night.
One of them jumped from the trestle onto a concrete platform and then fell backward into the water.

The other two went into the water to try and rescue the man.
Officers say the men found the victim unresponsive and were unable to get him to shore so they called for help.
A team from the Escambia County Search and Rescue found the man's body in Bayou Texar inlet near the trestle just after 3am.
The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of his kin.
The Pensacola Police Department is investigating.
